1999 Parker Fly Classic Prototype Rare/S2 Deluxe Custom -SOLD-
Item ID: 54
Availability: Not for Sale
Parker Fly Classic Prototype/S2 Deluxe Custom with the original case and case candy. So this one is not the easiest to describe because the history is so unclear but just just by the looks you can see this was a custom Parker build. When I first saw it I thought it was a Parker Fly Classic but with the HSS, different knob configuration, and pick up selector??? The person who had the guitar last did have an interesting story about where he got it. He told me the owner of the guitar was in finance and helped Parker get started in MA. He was able to get his hands on not one but two Classic prototypes, the first one sold a couple of weeks ago and this was the other I was able to grab. The person I spoke to did email with Parker and confirm that this one was in fact one of a handful of prototypes done. The Parker forums lit up when they heard that I was selling these and they thought it could be a custom S2 Deluxe. The only problem with that is I spoke with two different reps at Parker and the first rep said it was a very rare custom piece done and the second said it was a very unique custom piece but neither said they were marked as an S2 Deluxe. Also the serial number does not seem to be correct as far as identifying the wood. It has MA at the end of the serial but the body looks like it was made from Ash. I am leaning towards that the original story that I was told was most likely true, that this was some sort of proto or maybe even a custom order that Ken Parker made for this business associate. I'm sure some of the players who follow my auctions might know a thing or two about these so please email me if you have any additional info since this is a rare one for sure.
The guitar plays amazingly well and I have had a bunch of PF Classics in this year but this proto has its own style. Weighs in at 4.5 (can be off by .4) lbs so it could be the lightest guitar we have ever had. Don't think it's missing any tone or sustain because when it's overdriven it's able to get some serious heavy tone off of that bridge humbucker. Also the pick ups seem to be the older style DiMarzios which I haven't seen in a long time. It has that 5 way switch so you can get a pretty wide range of strat to LP type feel and don't forget about the Piezo which you can blend in or use by itself. If you spend a lot of time in the studio and don't want to bring 3 guitars this is an amazing guitar to have so you can get all the sounds you need easily. The overall sound is incredible with perfectly balanced tone and I love using effects with it just cause you can keep your sound sounding nice and rich without getting muddy. Just a real cool piece of P.F. history and one of the easiest playing guitars I have had in.
Condition is good but has some wear. Headstock has some wear on the top, frets/board look mint, it has picking scratches and you can see some small dings right below the trem (please zoom in to see), back of the neck is mint, back of the body has buckle rash but nothing deep and some wear at the bottom left, sides are clean, and bottom is clean. We had no issues when we tested it out. I do not have the trem arm for the guitar.
